FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) – On Thursday, Fayetteville Police arrested Derrick Stidum, 34, after they say he hit a woman and her dog with a handgun.
According to the department, on Wednesday, officers received several calls of gunshots fired near 1743 Shamblin in Springdale.
There, they say Stidum forced himself inside his ex-girlfriend’s home after she told him not to come over. As he stepped inside, police say he pulled out a handgun, racked the slide and loaded the gun.
They then say he grabbed her neck and arms and hit her with gun’s barrel. Officers say Stidum told the victim he would shoot her if he found evidence of another man inside her home.
Before leaving, police say Stidum also hit the victim’s dog on top of its head.
In a report, the victim them told police she heard multiple gunshots outside in a nearby parking lot.
The next day, police found Stidum in Fayetteville. They say he confessed to going to the victim’s home and injuring her.
The report states, he admitted to having a gun, but denied firing it, and hitting the victim and dog with it.
Stidum now faces charges of residential burglary, 1st degree terroristic threatening, 2nd degree battery, possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and animal cruelty.
