POPE COUNTY, Ark.– A Pope County sister remembered who younger brother who died in an out-of-state crash that she survived with her mom one year ago this week.

We’ve learned from Mississippi Highway Patrol that they’ve arrested one person in connection with the crash that killed 4-year-old Trently Miller and injured his sister and mother.

The Pottsville kindergarten showed us in her school lobby us why she’s waiting to meet the Tooth Fairy.

Then Addy Miller gave us a high five before the 7-year-old took off her shoes to enjoy Tuesday’s special field day at school.

She laughed as her teacher spray sunscreen on her arm.

What her laugh didn’t show is the medical gear still in her back and that this week marked one year since she survived the wreck that killed her younger brother.

“He’s up in heaven,” Addy said.

She often talks about her brother Trently Miller.

The 4-year-old Pope County child was killed last year after Mississippi Highway Patrol said a 22-year-old driver, who toxicology later tested positive for alcohol, crashed into her family’s car in rural, Sunflower County on Cinco de Mayo.

“You had that choice. You had 2 choices there to stay home and you didn’t and you cost the life of a child,” Addy and Trently grandmother Tina Grey told us.

She sat on the school steps while Addy enjoyed something she couldn’t last year. The kid slide down an inflatable slide.

The 7-year-old said to her friend, “Hey look! I have a microphone on.”

Grey said she feels left in the dark about the case.

“All the family… we’re struggling. Ok we’re accepting the fact he’s no longer with us but we can’t accept the fact that something’s not being done about it,” she said.

Grey said about all her family can find out about the Mississippi Case is that an arrest was made about 8 months after the deadly crash.

She said, “We haven’t heard anything about it. Rumor has it that he was indicted that he pleaded not guilty but we don’t know anything else. We don’t know if there’s been a trial date set or anything.”

The grandma guaranteed that she’ll keep fighting for justice as Addy’s physical scars start to fade.

Addy told us, “I wanted to see Trently.”

Moments like that explained why Grey said with time Addy’s emotional scars have truly started to surface.

We spent Tuesday and made nearly two dozen phone calls trying to track down officials in Mississippi.

We found one person with Mississippi Highway Patrol who talked with our reporter Price McKeon.

The sergeant confirmed an arrest in the case and said the suspect’s awaiting trial. He told McKeon he would have to get back to her about specifics in the case.

We reached out to multiple people multiple times including Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Office, the Sunflower County Circuit Clerk’s Office, the Sunflower County’s District Attorney (who declined to comment on the case) and other local officials in the area of the wreck.

We are waiting to hear back from them as of when this web article was published.
