GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. – Family discord is being blamed in a double murder that left a woman and her daughter dead and the husband-father in jail.

That’s according to the Garland County Sheriff’s Office, which says deputies were called to the scene at 607 Northwood Trail in Hot Springs Village shortly before 9 p.m. Monday. The caller told them “multiple gunshots had been fired” inside the home, that her father had shot her mother and sister and he was still on the scene.

When deputies arrived they found Eric Allen Reid, 55, standing outside and took him into custody without incident. He is facing two counts of first degree murder.

The victims have been identified as Laura Reid, 57 and Maryann Reid, 32.

Sources say Laura Reid worked in the cafeteria at the Fountain Lake School District, which released the following statement this afternoon:
Fountain Lake School District would like to issue this official statement in regards to the untimely passing of one of our staff. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. The District requests that we all honor their privacy during this difficult time.

Officials say that there were also young children in the home at the time of the killings.

Reid was booked into the Garland County Detention Center shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning.
