LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Kendrick Davis, 15, is a teen of few words, but he did have something to say about his mentor and “Big Brother” Billy Trent.
“He teaches me a lot of stuff,” Kendrick said. “He pushes me away from peer pressure.”
Kendrick and Billy met through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas when Kendrick was just seven years old.
“I think him and I were a perfect match because I see a lot of him in me when I was younger,” Billy said. “I feel like it’s a lot of stuff that I experience in life that I wish people would have asked me certain things or said certain things, so I try to treat him the way I would have wanted somebody to treat me.”
Billy decided to become a big brother to positively impact future generations.
“There’s a lot of stuff going on in the world to where smaller children need grown-ups to be more mentors and help guide them down better paths,” Billy said.
He said while it can seem scary at first, it’s effortless and in the end, you’re guaranteed to feel rewarded.
“It’s fun, the mission of knowing you’re leading somebody down a better path, or the right path,” Billy said.
Billy has plans to get another little brother and then let Kendrick serve as a big brother to him.
