LITTLE ROCK, AR–Little Rock’s board of directors approved the 2014 budget without objection Tuesday night. After touring the city and hosting multiple budget presentations, board members voted for a balanced budget, allocating majority of the $184 million to continued public safety spending.
Mayor Mark Stodola commented he is a little concerned about revenue growth, adding that it’s much slower than they projected while pushing for the sales tax increase. The mayor is hoping new businesses like Bass Pro Shop will help fill in the gap.
“Bass Pro will be a real shot in the arm to the city. I project with Bass Pro in operation for a full year it will be an additional $600,000 in the city’s coffers in terms of sales tax revenue,” says Mayor Stodola.
The mayor says roughly 70 percent of the 2014 budget is dedicated to public safety. Next year the city is planning to spend an additional $100,000 on the homeless resource center.
