LITTLE ROCK, AR – Little Rock’s mayor is hopeful the new year will bring new changes to the way the government taxes internet sales.

Right now, sales tax fees do not apply to items bought online that are out of state.

It gives folks a nice break from taxes. But Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola says it’s costing the city an estimated $2 million a year.

He says Congressman Steve Womack is working on legislation to change that.

“When the amazons of the world stand in the way every year we wind up having a dissolution of the local tax base because the taxes are not collected,” says Mayor Stodola.

Mayor Stodola says getting legislation passed to tax internet sales is one of his top priorities in the new year.
