LR Officials Break Ground on New Police Station

LITTLE ROCK, AR — City leaders broke ground Tuesday on a new police station in a neighborhood where crime has been a problem.

The new station will be built on the corner of 12th and Pine in midtown.

The area has seen its share of trouble, including an officer-involved shooting that sparked outrage just one week ago.

Residents hope the 44,000 square foot, $12 million facility will make the neighborhood safer.

“I think its a strong statement that city hall cares, and they care very much about the well-being of the citizens in all parts of our city, and particularly in this part of our city,” Mayor Mark Stodola says.

The new station is next to a community resource center and will continue a restoration project that’s already brought in bike lanes and police cameras.

The project is set to be completed by 2014.
