LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Little Rock Police Department is providing extra security to make sure patrons are safe at Movies in the Park.
Sidney Allen with LRPD states that officers from the River Market, SWAT, Motorcycle Squad and School Recourse Officers Units have been assigned to the River Market, having a total of eight supervisors and 42 officers in the area.
Portable Sky Towers, used during Riverfest and the Arkansas State Fair, will also be in place.
Security was reassessed after the shooting that happened on July 9, near the Movies in the Park event.
Officers say they were escorting out a group of rowdy teens just before 10:00 p.m. that Wednesday.
When they got to the intersection of Ottenheimer Plaza and President Clinton Avenue, police say, someone fired three shots into the air.
The gun shots sent people scattering in fear.
An 18-year-old man was briefly detained after officers thought they saw him with a gun, but after they searched him and didn’t find one he was released.
