LRPD IDs Officers Involved in Thursday’s Deadly Shooting

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Police have released the identities of the two officers who were involved in Thursday’s deadly shooting.

The Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says Officers Clark Sheffield and Eric Barnes have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

After responding to a report of a suicidal man who had taken 50 Xanax at a home on Nash Lane, Sheffield and Barnes entered the home, where suspect John Williams was holding a long-barreled firearm, according to LRPD.

Sheffield and Barnes ordered Williams to drop his weapon, but after he continued to brandish it at them, they opened fire, LRPD says.

According to the report, Officer Barnes hit Williams with two out of three shots, including grazing his leg and one striking his abdomen.
