Major construction problem on Military Road

BENTON, AR — Cars and trucks still drive on Military Road. But construction is not going anywhere.

Today, Benton city leaders say there is bad soil underneath the roadbed and they are trying to figure out what to do. But until that is done, construction is stopped.

Megan Stephenson teaches dance and wonders when the project will be back on beat.

“Is this going to be prolonged? Is it going to be stalled a little bit longer,” she asks.

City leaders hoped to have construction done by early 2013. But now, the time frame for completion is unknown. In the meantime, Pastor David Brewer is trying to keep his members away from a five foot hole in front of his church.

“It’s dangerous in my opinion for people to drive by here. It can be dangerous,” said Brewer.

City leaders say it will cost about a million dollars more to stabilize the ground. The existing project is already budgeted to cost roughly $7 million.
