SEARCY, AR – Police say it’s been 50 days since Malik Drummond reportedly wandered off from his father’s home.

Officers say the search has taken time, but their efforts are still going strong.

“I just hope they find him…” sighs Neighbor Vernessa McBride.

A long sigh sets the mood as Neighbors explain how they are holding onto to hope that 2-year-old Malik Drummond will be found.

“Where is this child?” says McBride.

Police say little Malik wandered away from his father’s Searcy home back in November. Neighbors and officers are joining forces to search for the boy, creating civilian search parties and dive teams to scan nearby rivers.

“They’re still talking about it,” says neighbor Wayne Dunn.

50 days later, neighbors say Malik’s name still echoes through the community.

“There’s signs on doors windows and stores,” says Dunn.

Searcy Police say the criminal investigation into Malik’s disappearance is active and ongoing.

“Now we are at a point where as leads come in we’re following up with leads,” says Searcy Police Corporal Steve Hernandez.

But officers say they can’t release many details.

“We understand there is some frustration because we have not yet released everything, but what the public has to understand is, we don’t want to hurt this investigation by releasing information that may jeopardize it,” says Hernandez.

As police work to find the boy family describes as a loving child with a curious heart, neighbors pray the new year will bring new developments.

“I hope they find the child,” says Dunn.

“I really do, I really hope that they find him,” says McBride.

The Searcy Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact them.
