LONOKE, AR — A woman is dead, and her nephew in custody after a shooting in Lonoke Saturday.
60-year-old Linda Cooney was shot and killed shortly before 5:00 p.m. at a home on Theresa Lane, 30-year-old Mario Perez Cooney has been taken into custody.
Lonoke Police Public Information Officer Lieutenant Randay Mauk says they received two emergency calls around 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
One was a report of the shooting at a home in the 300 block of Theresa Lane, the other was a call to a home on Chestnut, where a man had entered without permission.
Mauk says Mario Cooney was questioned at the home and arrested for the alleged shooting.
Police believe Cooney had ingested a potentially life-threatening quantity of drugs.
He will be processed when he is released from the hospital, according to police.
