LITTLE ROCK, AR – UALR is having a memorial service today for a woman who was shot to death last week.
Police say Yolanda Whitfield, 34, died Monday night after the incident that followed an argument with her boyfriend at a home on W. 28th Street. Cory Brooks, 24, is being held on $100,000 bond on a first degree murder charge in the homicide. He was arrested two days after the killing.
UALR announced the service for Whitfield in a news release issued Friday.
The campus memorial will be held Tuesday in the student housing area on Trojan Lane at 3 p.m. “in response to the grief expressed by so many faculty, staff, and students on the loss,” the release stated.
Yolanda came to UALR as a student in 2008. She was a Resident Assistant for two years, a Graduate Hall Director for two years, and a Living Learning Communities Coordinator for one year. She was also active in the Social Work program, Student Affairs program, and also worked in the TRiO Office and Financial Aid.
