Update (11 a.m.):
SEARCY, AR – Police have released new information in the investigation of a shooting that left one man hospitalized and his father and a third person in jail.
The Searcy Police Department says James D. Hughes, 19, of Judsonia, and his father, James A. Hughes, 44, of Searcy, had been loaned money by the homeowner in this morning’s incident.
The two men had gone to the home to get their television, which was being held by the homeowner as collateral, according to police.
Original story (9:15 a.m.):
SEARCY, AR – A would-be burglar is in the hospital and his father is in jail after a homeowner opened fire on the men as they were breaking into his house, according to police.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. on North Van Street.
When police arrived on the scene, the homeowner told them he had fired four rounds at the suspects.
They are identified as James D. Hughes, 19 of Judsonia, who police say was shot in the hands and chest. He was taken to Unity Health White County Medical Center by the other suspect, James A. Hughes, 44, of Searcy.
The wounded suspect was reported to be in critical condition at last report but is expected to survive, police said.
The man’s father is being held on $75,000 bond and is charged with Attempted Aggravated Residential Burglary.
Also arrested in the incident was Jennifer Curington, 31, of Searcy. She is also charged with Attempted Aggravated Residential Burglary and is being held on $75,000 bond.
