INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR – Wreckage from a missing plan has been discovered in Independence County, the pilot dead.

According to KAIT, Office of Emergency Management Director Glen Willis said the plane had been missing since Thursday morning.

As of right now, investigators believe the pilot was returning to Carlisle from Salem, but then decided to turn around in foggy weather and land at the Batesville airport.

The plane then crashed south of Highway 25 near the Independence County line, killing the pilot.

The plane was found by a different pilot searching for the plane Friday night.

When Willis arrived, there was no sign of fire or explosion at the crash site.
