FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KNWA) – A Fayetteville man faces DWI and resisting arrest charges after threatening the officer who pulled him from a burning car.
Police say it happened Tuesday around 2:25 a.m. near the intersection of Adobe and Sierra where an officer responded to a report of a car on fire.
When the officer arrived, he attempted to put the flames out with a fire extinguisher. That’s when he spotted a man, Timothy Marrs, inside the car. The officer pulled Marrs from the driver seat, smelling a strong odor of intoxicants, according to the report.
Once Marrs regained consciousness, he argued with police and EMS on the scene. Police say he was slurring his speech when he told them he was not in his car but had gone home and they had taken him from his home. Police noted the keys were still in the ignition of the car. Marrs was taken into custody after refusing field sobriety tests.
While riding to the Washington County Jail, police said Marrs continued to verbally attack the officer. He accused the officer of being a “rapist” and threaten he would sexually assault his mother when he got out of jail, according to the report. Marrs also told the officer his roommate who “had more guns than a pawn shop” would kill him.
Marrs was booked into the Washington County Jail after refusing to take a breath test.
