MAGNOLIA, Ark. — By all means Cordelia Street is one of those roads many kids would want to grow up on.

“There’s a bunch of friends around here,” Daniel Burton said

Between the bike races and fishing, Burton will tell you there’s no better place in Magnolia.

“Picking berries and stuff we go walking in the creek,” Burton said.

On Wednesday news about a horrific scene inside one of the neighborhood homes spread faster than the kids who run its streets.

“She got bit by some rodents,” Burton said.

Magnolia police found the evidence inside the home, a rat infestation believed to be the cause of more than 100 bites on a teenage couple’s 15 day old baby.

“This is a nice neighborhood most of the time,” Gerald Sanders said.

Sanders a soon to be dad can’t think of parents neglecting a newborn like this.

“That’s real far off, that is unacceptable for me really it’s unacceptable,” Sanders said.

Neighbors say the couple lived at the home with a friend.

Officers say the baby and other two kids are now in DHS custody and according to Sanders are safer there than his neighbor’s home.

“For right now until that gets situated to me, I don’t know there just isn’t any way around that right there,” Sanders said.
