LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A new procedure at Arkansas Heart Hospital is eliminating radiation exposure.
“I mean that’s technology that I would’ve never thought of,” says John Dobbs, Arkansas Heart Hospital Patient.
John Dobbs has an irregular heartbeat, also known as atrial fibrillation or afib. It causes chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, light-headedness and can cause people to pass out. Treatment for this is either medical or ablated therapy which consists of radiation.
“Our goal really is to be mindful and to reduce the long term risk to patients,” says AR Heart Hospital Electrophysiologist, Suderone Thihalolipavan.
Now, the Arkansas Heart Hospital has new technology that cuts the risk.
“We are able to do the same procedure over 3 to 4 hours now without the use of radiation,” says Dr. Thihalolipavan.
Doctor Suderone Thihalolipavan says this is great news for not just patients, but other doctors who perform the procedure as well. This service is attracting patients like John, who live in Northwest Arkansas, to utilize a cutting edge tool.
“Oh it’s great. We are in a society today where we’re continually striving to achieve more to be more productive and to be safer,” says Dobbs.
