NEWPORT, AR – A local man has pleaded guilty to three counts of negligent homicide in a triple fatal 2012 accident.

After Kevin Thomas Long, 37, entered his plea on Monday, he was sentenced to 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Long also pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.

Court officials say Long admitted to crossing the center line on Arkansas State Highway 226 in Jackson County while driving a dump truck on October 23, 2012, striking a vehicle driven by Andrea Benham.

Benham and her sister Felicia Davis were both killed in the collision as well as Davis’ unborn child. Benham’s two young children were in car seats in the back seat of the vehicle and survived the crash.

Long’s blood was tested by the Arkansas Crime Lab and intoxicating levels of methamphetamine were found in his system at the time of the crash.

Long also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine during a March, 2013 traffic stop.
