Number of Furloughs in Arkansas Exceeds 1,800

LITTLE ROCK, AR — At the close of the first business day without government operations, we now have a better idea about the total number of Arkansans who have been furloughed as a result of the shutdown.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) says 12 state agencies reported a total of 955 furloughs.

According to the Arkansas Air and Army National Guards, 900 full-time employees were furloughed Tuesday, bringing the Natural State’s total to 1,855.

The DFA says these numbers are subject to change.

The 955 furloughs have been issued in the following state agencies:
  • Public Service Commission – 2
  • Health Services Permit – 3
  • Crime Lab – 9
  • State Police – 15
  • Natural Resources Commission – 29
  • Science and Technology Authority – 8
  • Labor Department – 18
  • Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality – 92
  • Crowley’s Ridge Technical Institute – 1
  • Military Department (Not including National Guard) – 564
  • Department of Human Services – 202
  • Department of Health – 12
State agencies that reported no furloughs to DFA include:
  • Schools for the Blind and Deaf
  • Geological Survey
  • Department of Workforce Services
  • Department of Agriculture
  • Spinal Cord Commission
  • Department of Community Correction
  • Department of Correction
  • Arkansas Insurance Department
  • Arkansas Development Finance Authority
  • Disability Determination for Social Security Administration
  • Department of Parks and Tourism
  • Geographic Information Services
  • Department of Arkansas Heritage
