HOT SPRINGS, AR – An accused murderer and escaped inmate from a state neighboring Arkansas is back behind bars in Hot Springs.

Raymond Jay Stewart, 26, reportedly escaped from the Bryan County Jail in Oklahoma on Oct. 18, where he was being held awaiting trial on the charge of first degree murder.

The Arkansas State Fusion Center sent out a statewide broadcast that Stewart was a wanted person who was last seen on Oct. 18 in downtown Durant, Oklahoma.

On Wednesday, (Oct. 22) at 2 p.m., Detective Scott Lampinen recognized Stewart from the photo attached to the broadcast walking in the 800 block of Central Ave. in Hot Springs.

Stewart has multiple face tattoos, including an Irish clover on his left cheek, which is what alerted the detective.

Officers approached the man at 100 Bridge St., confirmed he was in fact Stewart, and took him into custody.

Stewart is currently being held at the Garland County Detention Center where he will await extradition back to Oklahoma.
