Online Buyers/Sellers Can Exchange at Maumelle PD

MAUMELLE, AR – The Maumelle Police Department is taking a new approach for those who fear meeting online buyers and seller.

Effective immediately, people may use the department’s parking lot to sell or buy items they bargain for over the internet.

The department said it got the idea from a Facebook friend and agreed it was clever, brilliant and wise.

“If there’s somebody wanting to take your money or your truck or whatever it happens to be and you say, ‘OK, that’s fine. Meet me at 2002 Murphy Drive’ and they say, ‘OK, is that your house?’ ‘no, that’s Maumelle Police Department’, they’re not going to show up,” said Capt. Jim Hansard.

The parking lot has 24-hour surveillance cameras and lights that stay on throughout the night.

The Sherwood Police department  is also implementing this idea, saying in order to keep people safe, it will have on duty officers 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
