MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) – There is new information concerning the mob attacks and beatings outside of a Poplar Plaza supermarket.
The father of one of the Kroger employees beaten up said race had nothing to do with what happened to his son.
But Shelby County Commissioners were told the employee who tried to break up the fight is still too upset to even be around people.
Mark Sauser’s son is the kid in the video being punched, kicked, and knocked out after he has hit with pumpkins.
“There’s nothing like seeing your son…finding out your son has been hurt and then seeing him on video,” Sauser said.
Sauser’s son has been seen around the country.
He is 17-years-old and just had another CAT scan this past weekend.
His dad says he is doing fine.
Unfortunately, the guy who tried to save him from the beating is not doing as well.
“I wanted to let him know we wanted to thank him. He is so traumatized he’s afraid to talk to people,” Heidi Shafer of the Shelby County Commission said.
Sauser doesn’t believe the color of his son’s skin had anything to do with what happened.
“When I saw the video of him being beaten up, I mean there was anger, and a lot of pain. In fact, I haven’t been able to watch it again. That’s why I’m not watching the news because it’s been on so much,” Sauser said.
Eleven people have been arrested, including the 15-year-old wearing a green shirt who was kicking Sauser’s son.
If he had a chance to talk with the mob members, Sauser says he would have questions.
“What were you thinking. What were you thinking about. Why did you do it. Your life is in shambles now. You can be saved. You can come back from this,” Sauser said.
Sauser says this event should be a catalyst for a day of prayer and fasting all through Shelby County on October 1st.
