LITTLE ROCK, AR – A prison inmate serving a 16 year sentence for manslaughter has a chance to get out as he’s up for parole. The family of his victim, however says now is not the time.
17-year-old Amanda Allison was killed in 2011. A large group of her family went in front of the parole board on Wednesday.
They walked out of the building in downtown Little Rock afterward hoping their emotional testimony would be enough to keep the man who killed her in prison for now.
“I see my baby girl laying on a filthy floor in a puddle of blood, screaming in agony, gasping out her last breath,” says Amanda’s mom Janice Allison.
A 10 minute plea by two parents hoping to see the man who took their daughter’s life spend more time behind bars. 24-year-old Cody Gorecke was sentenced in 2012 and has served three years of a 16 year sentence.
“I have to believe that my daughter’s life was worth a lot more than that,” says Allison’s father John.
Gorecke pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the January 2011 death of 17-year-old Amanda Allison. Authorities say Gorecke shot her with a sawed-off double-barreled shotgun. An alleged accident after he showed it off to people at a party that night.
Gorecke’s up for parole next month. On Wednesday Amanda’s family had a chance to stand in front of the parole board pleading that Gorecke should not get to go home because their daughter can’t.
“Amanda will never come home to her’s because Cody Gorecke killed her,” says Janice.
And while they may disagree with a 16 year sentence, suggesting it should be longer they hope he serves all of it.
“I’ll come back every day if that’s what it takes to keep him in prison,” says John.
But Amanda Allison’s family says this is about more than revenge or prison time. It’s about protecting others.
“Keeping him in prison won’t bring my daughter back. But I have to believe that as long as he’s in prison nobody else’s daughter will be buried,” says John.
Cody Gorecke will have his chance in front of the parole board next week. He’s currently at the Ouachita River Correctional unit in Malvern.
FOX16’s Josh Berry spoke did speak with his sister today on the phone. She says he is sorry for what happened, wishes he could take it back but knows he can’t.
