LITTLE ROCK, AR — A petition calling for Governor Asa Hutchinson to veto the Conscience Protection Act has more than 13,000 signatures.
The goal is to reach 15,000 signatures.
The Arkansas Senate passed the bill on Friday.
Supporters say it would protect religious freedom in Arkansas but those against the bill say it discriminates against the LGBT community.
Hutchinson released a statement saying:
“As I previously stated, I will sign this bill as amended. This bill is designed to protect religious freedoms of all Arkansans. It’s no different then legislation that has passed in 20 other states.”
Business leaders including Apple CEO, Tim Cook are also calling for the governor to veto the bill.
