Pine Bluff Flooded by Arkansas River

PINE BLUFF, AR – A steady stream of water now rushing into Pine Bluff.

All of it coming from the swollen Arkansas River–flooding Regional Park. Baseball fields are covered and the Radio Control Flying Club building is about four feet under water– along with the landing strip.

“Just thought I’d come look at it to see how bad it is. I really hope it doesn’t get much higher,” said Wayne Mullikin, member of the club.

He and other members of the Pine Bluff RC Fliers use the area to fly giant scaled airplanes, helicopters and drones.

“If it’ll just come up another foot or so and then go out, I think we’ll be fine and not have any loss,” said Mullikin.

Campers drove their way through the flood waters making it out of the campground at Regional Park to prevent any losses.

“Not expected to crest anytime real soon. So anyone that’s in there can’t get out in the morning,” said Pine Bluff worker Rory Taylor.

The campground which sits on higher ground is still open to campers already onsite. For those who need to go in and out of the park these next couple of days were told to evacuate Wednesday morning.

The rushing waters forced the cancellation of all events such as a golf tournament and school visits to the Nature Center.

Folks like Mullikin only hope conditions start to improve soon.

“Get back to flying and enjoy it again. Right now we are a hobby without a home.”
