PINE BLUFF, AR- A Pine Bluff father is charged with murdering his 8 week old son.

Police say Brandy Jones came home from work Thursday morning and found her baby unresponsive and called 911.

The baby’s father, Ivory Jones, told detectives he placed the baby on the couch around 1 O’Clock in the morning and says he feel asleep. Jones told police when he woke up 5 hours later, the family dog, a 3-year-old boxer, was lying on the baby. That’s when Jones told police he tried to perform CPR, but the baby was unresponsive. Det. Jerry Lambert says Mr. Jones story doesn’t add up. “He initially gave another name of Ashton Jones which is a false name.”

Ryan Gonzales lives nearby and says Jones has warrants and didn’t want to be arrested. Gonzales describes him as a good, hard-working man. “They loved their kids. I would never think anything like that.”

Darius Anderson is a close family friend if Ivory Jones and is convinced the baby’s death is an accident. “It’s really his pride and joy. I really don’t understand what’s going on.”

Gonzales hopes the truth will come out. “It’s nothing he would do, nothing he would do.”

Det. Lambert says a case like this is never easy. “This has been a very traumatic incident for the entire family, and we here at the Pine Bluff Police Department are working with the family to assist them in any way we can to bring them some form of relief.”

The investigation is on-going and the baby’s official cause of death will be up to the Medical Examiner at the State Crime Lab to determine.

Jones appeared before a judge Friday morning and no bond was set.
