DERMOTT, Ark. (AP) — The state Department of Human Services says one of the youths who escaped a juvenile detention center in southeastern Arkansas has turned himself in to authorities.

Spokeswoman Amy Webb says the boy called authorities and turned himself in Thursday morning. She says he was found in Montgomery County near Glenwood at the home of a relative.

A second juvenile who escaped the Dermott Juvenile Correctional Facility on Monday remains missing.

Webb says the agency can’t release the escapees’ names — or the reason they were being held — because they’re minors. Generally, juveniles are placed in such centers because a judge has committed them to the care of DHS’ Division of Youth Services.

Webb says it appears the juveniles slipped out through a broken fence. Officials are investigating the incident.
