Update 4/23/15 8:45pm
Seven hours after the original message was send to parents that did not tell them a gun was found, at 8:30 tonight parents were notified a gun was found on campus
Original Story
LITTLE ROCK, AR – A gun turned up during a routine safety exercise at a Little Rock charter school on Thursday afternoon according to police.
It happened at Lisa Academy just off Markham.
According to this police report, the Little Rock K-9 unit came to do an exercise on checking for drugs. During that search one officer says he saw a handgun sitting in plain view in a student’s car.
After getting permission to search the officer says he took out the handgun which was loaded. It also turns out the gun was stolen. Police arrested a 17-year-old boy for possession of a stolen weapon, since he’s a minor his name hasn’t been released.
The principal says as standard practice during a drill like this students are kept in their classrooms as a safety measure. But she says no one was ever in any danger on campus.
One parent told FOX16 he’s always felt his daughter was safe here but says he never received an alert about the gun on campus. We asked an administrator about that and she says parents did receive a message, but it didn’t specify what was found.
