UPDATE:
FORT CHAFFEE, Ark.(KNWA) – A person who was trapped in a van that became submerged in floodwater Tuesday evening has died.
Officer James Breeden with the Barling Police Department confirmed that one body was recovered. Breeden said dive teams are going into the floodwater, searching for other potential victims.
The victim’s gender, name, and age have not been revealed. Breeden would only say that the victim is an adult.
“There has been floodwater since Saturday. Unfortunately, people don’t heed the warning ‘Turn around, don’t drown,” Breeding said.
This is the first known death as a result of the Arkansas River flooding in the River Valley.

A van became trapped in floodwater at Fort Chaffee Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews, including dive teams, traveled to Fort Chaffee regarding a van caught in floodwater at Gate One of the Army National Guard base.
It is unknown if the van has people inside.
