AR Supreme Court Denies Challenge to Statewide Alcohol Sales Ballot Issue

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas Supreme Court has denied a petition that had sought to remove a measure on the November ballot regarding statewide alcohol sales.

Citizens for Local Rights, opponents to the proposal, had claimed the petition signatures collected to get the measure on the ballot were not turned in on time – on July 7 instead of July 4.

The Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office had said when the deadline falls on a holiday, the signatures can be turned on the following business day.

Right now the counties in Arkansas are nearly split down the middle, 38 “wet” and 37 “dry.” According to the ballot initiative, counties will not be allowed to go dry if the initiative passes, but counties can regulate sales.
