LITTLE ROCK, AR – A measure barring licenses for yoga schools has cleared another hurdle in the Arkansas legislature.

On Tuesday, the House Education Committee voted to advance the bill to a full House vote. If passed, it will allow yoga instruction studios to operate without a license but instead pay a fee.

Some yoga instructors say they are pleased the bill is moving quickly.

“We’ve certainly shown we are a unified community all over the state. It’s brought all of the yoga schools together and the yoga community together to say, ‘This is what yoga is about,” says yoga instructor Sherri Youngblood.

The Arkansas State Board of Private Career Education would like to see the yoga instruction studios be licensed. However, the board’s director tells us that if the bill passes, the board will abide by the law and won’t take any action against the yoga studios.
