LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas House is expected to take up a key vote on health care expansion on Tuesday.

House speaker Davy Carter, R-Cabot, told reporters a vote was not possible Monday due to the winter weather. Only 71 of 100 representatives showed up.

Carter says discussion continued throughout the day Monday and a fifth vote on the private option is likely Tuesday.

“There have been a lot of discussions so at some point the discussions have to, they all result in casting votes,” Carter says.  “And I think that’s probably what we’ll see and hopefully that will be tomorrow.”

The private option vote requires 75 yes votes for passage. Carter says if it fails again, it’s possible lawmakers could return to the state capitol at a later date to try and pass a budget for the Department of Human Services.
