WASHINGTON, D.C. — An Arkansas congressman caught some heat Thursday after sending out a tweet just a few minutes after the U.S. Capitol went on lockdown.

Second District Congressman Tim Griffin tweeted from a cloak room, “Gun shots at Capitol.”

Just one minute later, Griffin tweeted: “Stop the violent rhetoric President Obama, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.”

After an uproar on Twitter, Griffin’s office issued the following statement:

“The victims and their families are in my thoughts and prayers. The shooting today is a terrible and inexcusable tragedy and an act of terrorism. No one but the shooter is to blame.”
