GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. – A local juvenile has been arrested in the investigation of an alleged school threat.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) says the 16-year-old boy who attends Fountain Lake High School was taken into custody on Friday.
The GCSO says the investigation began after the school resource officer was told by school officials that they had become aware of a possible threat of violence in literature that contained the manner of death of other individuals.
The boy was interviewed at the Sheriff’s Office with his parents present and reportedly admitted to having written the literature.
The Fountain Lake Superintendent of Schools released the following statement regarding the incident:
“Our number one priority is the safety of our students. I would like to thank our students and staff that reported and investigated this incident to keep our schools safe,” Superintendent of Schools Michael Murphy said.
The 16-year-old is facing a charge of Terroristic Threatening (Class A Misdemeanor).
This is the 23rd case involving a school threat in Arkansas since mid-February.
