SALINE COUNTY, Ark. – Receding flood waters reveal the damage done after water got into homes in Shannon Hills on Thursday morning.

The fire department was called in to help evacuate people from a half dozen homes.

The water level had gone down by the afternoon.

“A couple inches and inch or so above the baseboards,” explains Aaron Potter, who lives on Donnie Drive. “And that’s throughout the house.”

The Shannon Hills man says he came home Thursday morning to water inside his home.

“I mean everything that was carpet obviously is going to be ruined,” he says.

Potter lives around the corner from where the fire department says they helped with the evacuations around 9 a.m.

“Kind of sick to my stomach. Pretty sick,” he continues.

He’s not the only person dealing with damage.

“Well, you can see the water mark on the end of the house there that’s about how high it came up,” says Kelly Tucker, who manages property in the neighborhood. “This particular tenant moved in about 4 months ago. We’ve not seen water even close to this since 1978.”

While looking down Clayton Dr. the local remembers flooding in the same spot more than four decades ago.

“I was in junior high school,” Tucker says. “And we were out here in boats picking people off the roofs.”

Thankful it didn’t get to that point, Tucker prepared to make repairs as Potter wonders where his outdoor furniture went.

He usually renovates other people’s homes.

“So, it’s kind of a pain. More of a burden than anything,” Potter says.

Now, he’ll need to work on his own place.

This homeowner has flood insurance and now it’s a waiting game for the next step.

When it comes to people who live in these homes, the fire department says there were no injuries.
