CLINTON, AR — A day after a major drug bust in Van Buren County we’re learning more about how methamphetamine has been impacting the community.

Sheriff Scott Bradley estimates 70 percent of the meth dealers in Van Buren County were taken off the street during a series of raids on Wednesday.

Thursday, the county jail was filled up with inmates, the result of an 18-month investigation into what law enforcement says was a major meth drug ring.

Sheriff Bradley says he’s proud of the local, state and federal operation that he believes will pay dividends across the county.

“A lot of your theft, a lot of your domestic violence, a lot of your battery charges all revolve around drug use,” said Bradley.

Bradley says because  agents were able to spend a year and a half on the investigation they built cases against some of the biggest dealers in the county.

They found much of the meth being imported from Mexico.

Bradley says that makes it more difficult to track as opposed to in years past when meth was produced in local meth labs.

The sheriff and locals were quick to point out that while they realize there is a meth problem in the county, they believe it’s no different from other counties.

With Thursday’s bust, they hope they’ve taken a big step toward in fixing some of the drug problems that were going on.
