Siloam Springs Couple Arrested in Death of 6-Month-Old Child

SILOAM SPRINGS, AR (KNWA) – A Siloam Springs couple is facing manslaughter charges in the death of their six-month-old baby.

According to police, Austin Moss, 21, and Jennifer Moss, 19, were arrested Tuesday stemming from an investigation initiated in January.

On January 25, Siloam Springs Fire and Police Departments responded on a report of a baby in cardiac arrest at 300 Meadow Court. Crews attempted lifesaving efforts but the baby was pronounced dead. Police launched an investigation and later found narcotics paraphernalia inside the home.

During interviews, both the mother and father admitted to using meth for several days prior to the evening of January 24. Both told police that evening they had smoked marijuana then fell asleep, with the baby between them.

The preliminary cause of death for the child is asphyxia due to co-sleeping. The baby’s body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsy, the results of which are pending.

Both Jennifer and Austin Moss were booked into the Benton County Jail without bond. A court date is set for March 23rd for the couple.
