PARIS, FRANCE (News release) – Governor Asa Hutchinson officially opened the Arkansas booth at the Paris Air Show with a ribbon cutting today. This is the first year for Arkansas to exhibit at the show, the world’s largest aviation and aerospace trade show.
Held every other year in odd-numbered years at Le Bourget Airport, the International Paris Air Show dates back to 1909. More than 2,200 exhibitors will be present at this year’s show.
“The Paris Air Show presents a wonderful opportunity for us to share the many reasons the aerospace sector is thriving in Arkansas,” said Governor Hutchinson. “We will meet with companies ranging from small start-ups to the largest aerospace companies in the world. We have only been here a short time and I’m already encouraged by the reception we are receiving from companies who know little about the state.”
About 139,000 people visited the 2013 show and more are expected this year.
Aerospace was Arkansas’s largest export in 2014, totaling $1.6 billion. The state is home to nearly 180 well-known companies in the industry, include Dassault Aviation, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon Missile Systems.
Since its launch, the International Paris Air Show has been at the heart of innovation in the aviation/aerospace industry. The Concorde, the world’s first supersonic commercial aircraft, and the Boeing 747 jumbo jet were on display at the 1969 show, and the Ariane rocket debuted 10 years later. In 2011, more than 2,110 exhibitors broke the all-time exhibition record.
This year’s show will include highlights such as:
