MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) – A Louisiana deputy sheriff who was shot and killed in the line of duty was a former student at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.
SAU said Saturday that 27-year-old St. John’s Parish deputy Jeremy Triche was a starting catcher on the SAU baseball team in 2006 and 2007.
Louisiana authorities say Triche and deputy Brandon Nielson were killed Thursday at a trailer park where a car believed to have been connected to an earlier shooting and wounding of another deputy was spotted. Authorities say a fourth deputy was also wounding in the shootings.
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the shootings.
SAU says Triche is survived by his wife and 2-year-old son. Funeral services for Triche are scheduled for Monday in La Place, La.
