LITTLE ROCK, AR — A rainy, cold morning didn’t stop Santa’s elves from making a delivery, dropping off bicycles to the bright-eyed Egeston boys.
It’s their first one without their mother Akiya. While at her job at a North Little Rock gas station, three men robbed and killed her.
“I just take it one day at a time. As long as they’re (the boys) happy then I stay focused with them,” Akiya’s husband Johnathan said.
Stop the Violence has over two hundred bikes to deliver to kids who lost a close loved one due to violence this year. They hope bikes will get the family members’ minds off of the tragedy.
“For us to give up our Christmas Day to go put a smile on a child’s face, it’s enough joy to last for a lifetime.”
But founder Bennie johnson hopes people realize the hurt violence causes, and they see why it has to stop.
“We want to see more, stiffer penalties and sentencing for these heinous acts. This will make people think two and three times before pulling the trigger,” Johnson said.
This is the sixth year for the bike giveaway.
