LITTLE ROCK, AR — Tonight, one Little Rock group works to end shootings, stabbings and assaults in the Capitol City.
Members of “Stop the Violence” say one of the best ways to do that is to teach kids how to stay on the positive side and off the streets.
At Greater Trinity Church of God in Christ, kids and adults came together tonight to spread a positive message.
Rev. Stacey Allen said, “Keeping the kids out of trouble, keeping them out of the streets. Our theme is taking the streets back.”
Best friends Lazarous Pettus and Amauri Dawkins say not only do they get it, they live it.
Thanks to the help of mentors like Rev. Stacey Allen who went from prison to the pulpit.
And he’s now sharing his story with kids, some who take his message and turn it into music.
Amauri Dawkins said, “We just thought it would be a good thing to start up as a team and rap about stopping the violence.”
The two best friends rap for a reason.
They tell kids to work hard in school, go to church and stay out of trouble.
Lazarous Pettus said, “I just want to tell kids to keep on pushing, if they’re going through a lot of stuff. Just keep your head up.”
