MALVERN, AR – Oby Berry was placed in police custody Wednesday (1/16) night. The Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office says he’s an employee of Magnet Cove School District.
According to the District’s website, Berry is a high school math teacher there.
According to the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s office, Wednesday night authorities arrested school Berry after they say he tried to stop a school bus with children on board and came to campus later wearing shoe polish on his face.
What scared parents even more were law enforcement claims that Berry, days earlier, told someone he was in “killing mode.”
Through this all the school district stresses the safety of their students was never compromised, saying things were going well the day after.
“It’s been a very good day for us,” Superintendent Gail McClure said. “It’s been as close to a normal day as I think we could possibly have and I’ve had good reports from each building principal.”
After she says law enforcement suggested there was no need to lock the school down Wednesday, McClure says they didn’t notify parents.
Following the arrest of Berry the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office says he has been taken to a mental care facility.
