Toy donations low for Little Rock Outreach Groups

Little Rock, AR — The blaring sounds and blinking lights of a toy are what most kids want to see and hear on Christmas morning. But unfortunately, that might not be a reality for some.

Rosemary Holloway, with the Little Rock Compassion Center, says they have about 300 people registered for toys. But she’s only got enough to help about 20 families.
She says not enough donations are coming through the door.

“Normally, we have a lot more toys come in by this time. But this year, we just don’t have it,” said Holloway.

The same problem at the Salvation Army with its Angel Tree Program. Major April Taylor holds dozens of angels who have not been adopted.

“We need to get these kids toys,” said Taylor.

To hopefully prevent any kid from being without, the Marines start in early fall to fill their Toys for Tots boxes.

“October 1 through the middle of December, we are having these events. So it’s for the children,” said Marine Staff Sergeant Travis Tilley.

Leaders say the reason for the drop in donations can be blamed on the poor economy.
