BAXTER COUNTY, AR – A man and woman from Missouri are facing charges in north Arkansas after authorities say drugs were found in their vehicle.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) says in a news release out this morning that the Pontiac, Missouri residents were arrested Saturday night after a traffic stop.

Their vehicle was pulled over just before 8:30 on State Highway 5 North for what the BCSO described as an equipment violation.

Deputies say the vehicle was driven by Jeffrey C. Sumner, 43, and the passenger was Alisha Dawn King, 26. The woman allegedly gave a false name during the stop and investigation that followed.

The release stated “Due to the demeanor and statements of the vehicle occupants, the deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle for contraband, which was denied. A Mountain Home Police certified drug dog was called to the location of the stop to sniff the vehicle for contraband. The drug dog alerted on the vehicle, and a search was then conducted.”

The BCSO says during the search of the vehicle, officers found several syringes loaded with a controlled substance, several pills later identified as Oxycodone and Cyclobenzaprine, and other drug paraphernalia.

Sumner and King were taken to the Baxter County Detention Center for booking, where a fingerprint scan identified the woman.

Sumner is charged with Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

King is also charged with those counts, along with Obstructing Governmental Operations and a Hold for Other Agencies (Greene County, Missouri Felony Warrant). She remains in jail.
