Update: Child recuperating after being run over by mom

CONWAY, AR – Police say a twelve year old girl had to be airlifted to the hospital after her mother accidentally backed her car over the child. Investigators say it happened around five Saturday morning.

Amazingly, the child is already back home recuperating and nursing her injuries. LaTresha Woodruff with Conway Police says the victim suffered a pretty bad burn mark from the vehicle’s engine, has track marks on her body but no other major injuries.

From across the room, Madison Boyd looks and acts like any other 12-year-old in summer with a few extra bumps and bruises you’d assume are from playing outside. Only when you look closer and see a hospital bracelet do you know she’s had an eventful morning.

Madison is still in her pajamas from the sleepover she hosted last night. She and a friend laid out here in the driveway early Saturday morning to watch the sunrise. That’s where they fell asleep.

“The garage goes up and all I know is she’s backing up,” Madison told Fox16.

“I heard two loud pops under the car,” said her mother, Belinda. “I got out of the car to make sure I wasn’t running something over and that’s when her little friend jumped out of the driveway and said…I had ran her over.”

Madison woke up trapped underneath her mother’s car.

“I panicked and I called 911 and then she started talking to me,” said Belinda Boyd.

“I was stuck on my arm and it was hurting – it went numb and I couldn’t feel it,” remembered Madison.

Trapped for half an hour before police and fire got her out, the 12-year-old’s back is now covered in scrapes, road rash and a few burns.

“I thought my arm was going to break from just laying on it that long.”

Tonight, she’s doing okay and already asking to have her friend over again.

“We don’t know if her parents will say yes this time,” said Madison.

Madison’s mother is slightly more shaken.

“I am exhausted,” said Belinda. “I will probably never drive in reverse again.”

Despite her injuries, Madison’s only complaints are about sleeping poorly on her concrete driveway.

“I’m very tired. My neck hurts, badly.”

And, of course, missing the sunrise.
