Update: Child Shot in Little Rock Wednesday in Guarded Condition after Surgery

Update (August 8):
LITTLE ROCK, AR – An 8-year-old boy remains hospitalized in guarded condition after having surgery for a gunshot wound he suffered on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at 7518 Twin Oaks Road on the city’s southwest side in a neighborhood just off Chicot Road.

Police say the victim was playing with a Glock 9mm pistol when his 13-year-old cousin tried to take it away from him and it went off.

The gun was reported stolen in Little Rock in August of 2010, according to police.

Update (August 7, 6:00 p.m.):

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Police are releasing more details from their investigation into a child who was shot late Wednesday afternoon.

According to LRPD, there were three juvenile males in the home where the shooting occurred, and the victim did not live there, but lived nearby.

Although police initially confirmed the child’s age of 9, they are now saying the child is 8 years old.

The child was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital with injuries police say appear to be life-threatening.

The shooting is currently being investigated as an accident.

Police say they are waiting to release any names until parents are notified, and the victim’s parents, as of now, have not been notified.

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Emergency crews are responding to calls of a 9-year-old who has been shot.

According to the Little Rock Police Department (LRPD), officers responded to the 7500 block of Twin Oaks Road just before 5:00 Wednesday afternoon.

There is currently no word on the extent of the injuries.
