Original story (March 30):
GARLAND COUNTY, AR – Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two people after the investigation of a reported kidnapping led to the discovery of dynamite inside a vehicle.

It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday when the Garland County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on White Sulphur Road.

That’s where deputies watched a green Buick Regal leave the residence and then pulled it over.

They recognized the driver, identified as Shannon Dale Smith, 43, as the suspect in the reported kidnapping. He was ordered to step out of the vehicle because he was under arrest. At that time, Smith drove away in the vehicle and deputies caught up with it at 1125 East Grand Avenue. Smith then ran into a wooded area.

When deputies approached the vehicle, they found a passenger identified as Kandyce Jones, 23, of Caddo Valley.

While taking inventory of the vehicle for towing purposes, deputies found five sticks of dynamite in a gun case and notified the Arkansas State Police bomb squad. An Airsoft rifle was also found in the car, the report said.

Jones was charged with 5 counts of Criminal Possession of Explosives and is being held at the Garland County jail.

The GCSO is still looking for Smith on various charges. If you have any information on his whereabouts you are urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (501) 622-3666 or the 24 hour anonymous hot line at (501) 622-3674.
