LITTLE ROCK, AR – Hours after a standoff on the city’s southwest side this morning, police have released details on what actually happened.

While the incident at the Rodeway Inn on W. 65th Street was at one point thought to be a hostage situation, that turned out not to be the case.

Police say it all started when an Arkansas State Police trooper on patrol spotted a car matching the description of one reported stolen and pulled it over. The man driving the vehicle was taken into custody and found to have a room key for the hotel.

When the vehicle was reported stolen on July 23, the victim told police the suspects were two Hispanic men. Therefore, the trooper went to the hotel room for which the man had the key and knocked on the door, thinking the second suspect might be inside. A person inside, later determined to be the man’s girlfriend, opened the door but then quickly closed it and refused to come out.

At that point, SWAT officers were called in. A couple of hours later the woman came out willingly. She was not charged.

The man taken into custody by the trooper had not yet been charged as of Friday afternoon but was still in custody.
