Update: LRPD Says Suspect Had Gun, Didn’t Fire

Police have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Deon Williams. Police say a gun fell from Williams’ waistband while officers were chasing him. They say he picked up the gun while facing the officer, the officer felt threatened, and the officer fired his weapon approximately three times. Williams was arrested and taken to UAMS where he later died.

Sources close to FOX16 say Officer Terry McDaniel was the one who fired his weapon at Williams.

Here’s the release police sent out with all the incident details.

Williams friend, Shemedia Shelton, said the vehicle belonged to her.

“It was not stolen,” said Shelton.

The shooting victim’s father, Julius Williams, says he doesn’t understand why his son would run.

“I don’t have a clue. He must have been provoked,” said Williams.
